"Eddie Machen, 194, started his comeback here Thursday night with a methodical ring victory over Young Jack Johnson of Los Angeles. The verdict was unanimous. Most of the action was reserved for the last two rounds. In the 9th Johnson, 218, apparently triggered Machen's temper by kneeing him in the groin three times. It also aroused the partisan Machen crowd. Up until that time, it had been a fairly mediocre fight, with neither man hurting the other." -United Press International
