"Rory Calhoun scored a 6th round TKO over Yolande Pompey in a televised fight here Wednesday night that sent Pompey to a hospital for about an hour. Dr. John Ambach halted the fight after Calhoun connected with a hard right to Pompey's jaw in the 5th. Pompey subsequently couldn't move his neck. Calhoun was never in trouble in the bout televised nationally from Freedom Hall. He pummelled Pompey for the first two rounds and continued hitting away at Pompey's cut left eye after the 3rd." -Associated Press

• Doctors at St. Joseph Infirmary in Louisville said that Pompey suffered a spasm of the neck muscles and was released after putting 10 stitches in his cut left eye.
• Coming into this bout Calhoun was Ring magazine's 6th ranked middleweight while Pompey was the 3rd ranked light heavyweight.
