"Middleweight Rudy Ellis reaped a big dividend at Chicago stadium in his first televised fight Wednesday night after pounding out a majority decision over Rory Calhoun. Ellis, 158, South Haven, Mich., earned his 18th win in 20 fights. Calhoun, 162, White Plains, N.Y., took the initiative from the start. Ellis appeared bewildered by the crafty Calhoun, a trade-marked infighter. The New Yorker repeatedly kept Ellis off balance throughout the first five rounds. Then, Ellis seemed to gain confidence and parlayed hard rights to the head with left hooks to pile up enough points for the verdict. In the 9th and 10th rounds, Ellis displayed a strong two-fisted attack that had the arena in an uproar." -Associated Press
