Frankie Crawford 127 lbs beat Mando Ramos 134 lbs by MD in round 10 of 10

"Irish Frankie Crawford, outweighed by seven pounds, scored the boxing upset of the year last night with a 10 round majority decision over highly publicized Mando Ramos of Long Beach before a sell-out crowd of around 10,400 at the Olympic Auditorium. Crawford ripped open a nasty gash with a right over Ramos' left eye in the 2nd round and, keeping it in a bloody mess from then on, earned the verdict to give the 18 year old youngster only his second loss in 20 fights. There were no knockdowns but the fight, a genuine grudge match between the two, was vicious from the very start." -Associated Press

Post fight comments

  • "They got the money, but we won the fight and now we got them where we want them. If they want a rematch, Ramos will have to make 130 lbs." -Jake Shugrue, Crawford's manager
  • "I told Lee Grossman before the fight that my guy (Ramos) was no angel, and I also told him to watch Crawford's tactics. He spun Ramos, hit him on the break and slugged him when he was halfway out of the ring, but Grossman didn't warn Crawford once." -Jackie McCoy, Ramos manager
  • "That's the last time I'll call Ramos a punk. He's rough." -Frankie Crawford
