"Adolph Pruitt, the number one contender for the jr. welterweight title, moved himself in line for a shot at the welter crown as well with a unanimous 10 round decision over top 147 pounder Hedgemon Lewis. Although a few boos met the decision, there was little doubt that Pruitt won it. Despite Lewis' retreating it was a good fight fought at a brisk pace. Adolph carried it to Hedgemon from the opening bell. He missed a lot, but he also landed plenty. Lewis was jolted by a right to the chin in the 2nd round, and was staggered by hard rights to the jaw in the 5th and 10th rounds. The right in the 10th really shook Lewis up. Hedgemon landed some snappy left hooks, and a few clean left-right combinations, but his blows lacked steam and the pace set by Adolph from the outset held up." -Boxing Illustrated, April 1971 issue
