  • Referee: Frankie Van

"Ultiminio (Sugar) Ramos still had his unbeaten record today and also was another step closer to a possible featherweight title fight with champion Davey Moore. Ramos, making his debut in the U.S., knocked out Eddie Garcia of Denver in the 9th round of their scheduled 10-round bout last night before some 5,000 fans at the Olympic Auditorium. The 131 pound Cuban, now fighting out of Mexico City, decked Garcia, 130 3/4, with a right hand in the 3rd round but was hard pressed before scoring the kayo at 2:31 of the 9th. Ramos, the No. 1 featherweight contender, caught Garcia with a snappy right and decked him with a follow-up left. Garcia beat the count, but referee Frankie Van stopped the fight. -Pasadena Star-News

  • Ramos failed to make the contracted weight of 131 at the noon weigh-in and was forced to shed app. 1 1/2 pounds in the steam room before making the weight.
  • The Star-News had Ramos as undefeated and entering this bout with a record of 34-0-3, whereas boxrec shows Ramos with a record of 31-1-3, losing his previous bout on a 4th round DQ to Rafael Camacho down in Mexico.
