  • Jack Reddick, Canadian light-heavyweight champion had to stage a strong finish to defeat Carl Augustine in the feature bout at the Auditorium Rink.

Augustine led for eight rounds and piled up a comfortable lead through the use of a deft left jab which constantly sent Reddick back. But the final round found Augustine a beaten man, hanging on the ropes, saved by the bell.

For eight rounds, it was a tame bout. Reddick seemed to lack steam. But in the ninth, which was a cyclonic spasm and easily the best of the fight, Reddick unleashed a wicked attack. He stung Augustine and it appeared as if he may score a knockdown.

However, the tenth and eleventh, although in Reddick's favor, were fairly tame rounds with Reddick failing to stage the rushing attack that was expected of him.

In the final round, Reddick went to his task again and was pounding Augustine at will. For the final minute, Augustine clung to the ropes, groggy and just before the bell, Reddick landed a hard right which sent him to the floor. Augustine had to be carried to his corner, his lip swollen and blood trickling from his mouth.

Despite his undisputed victory, Reddick did not fight as well as was expected of him, nor as well as he is capable. His rushing attack in the ninth and twelfth had many to believe that he could have won earlier. However, this point is debatable.
