"Rudy Barro of the Philippines won an upset 10 round majority decision over 6th ranked Jimmy Heair Thursday night at the Olympic Auditorium. Thursday night's fight will certainly be stiff competition for fight of the year honors. Both fighters gave their all in a bloody 10 round war that found both fighters virtually out on their feet, unwilling to go down. The 4-month layoff was all too evident for Heair, as early as the 1st round the usually sharp-punching cowboy was missing his target and not taking advantage of Barro's open defense of his body. Meanwhile, Barro kept a constant two-fisted attack in high-gear, never relenting from bell to bell. Heair fought the last three rounds falling around the ring from fatigue, trying for one final haymaker, knowing he was behind, but Barro was able to handle Heair and end his undefeated status after 33 fights." -Pasadena Star-News
