- Date: 1975-04-21

- Judge: Pete Giarusso 8-1
"Tony Licata now looms as the No. 1 challenger to the world middleweight title, currently held by Carlos Monzon of Argentina. Licata clearly outclassed another Argentinian - Ramon Mendez - thus avenging the only loss in Tony's professional career, and perhaps setting the stage for the title showdown that the New Orleans native has for so long sought. After watching Tony's domination of Mendez Monday night, one was left wondering how Licata managed to lose last month's bout between the two - which, incidentally, was staged in Italy. Using the amazingly quick left jab that is his trademark, Licata seemed in control from start to finish. By the fight's end, Mendez' left eye was closed, and Licata was battering away at will. In the 5th round, Mendez walked into a thundering right uppercut that resulted in the only knockdown of the evening." -Hattiesburg American
- Carlos Monzon was ringside for this bout as pre-fight talk was that he was going to take on the winner, which he did.
- The Hattiesburg American reported the scorecards slightly different from boxrec's. It had judge Maxie Docusen as 7-2-1, Pete Giarrusso as 8-1-1 and referee Lucian Jaubert as 8-2 all for Licata.
