Tony Licata 159 lbs lost to Ramon Mendez 160 lbs by MD in round 10 of 10
"Ramon Mendez of Argentina outpointed Tony Licata of New Orleans, the 2nd-ranked middleweight contender, in a 10-round bout in the Milan Sports Palace Friday night, giving the American boxer his first defeat in 51 starts. Mendez pounded Licata with right jabs, flooring him for a count of eight in the 3rd round. The Argentine, 159 3/4, also was swinging his left to the face with great precision as Licata, 159 1/2, tried to rely on his speed to get through his opponent's guard. In the 7th and 8th rounds, Mendez slowed down and Licata began scoring with left-right combinations to the face which shook the Argentine clearly twice. Mendez, however, gained control of the match again in the last two rounds." -Associated Press
