The end came suddenly when Kirkman backed Jones onto the ropes and connected with a right uppercut. He followed with another uppercut, banged in a left hook, then crossed over with a smashing right. Jones collapsed on the ropes and appeared ready to fall when referee Jimmy Rondeau stopped the fight.
