Cuban welterweight champion Luis Manuel Rodriguez, 145 ½, stopped Joe Miceli, 144 ½, in the fifth round of a scheduled 10-rounder at National Coliseum in Havana, Cuba. Miceli took a heavy battering in the third and fourth rounds and went down without being hit at the start of the fifth. He got to his feet and was hit by two solid rights before the referee stopped the bout at 1:20.
