Chuvalo, the 5th ranked heavyweight contender, dropped Besmanoff twice in the 2nd round for mandatory eight-counts and the 34 year old Besmanoff couldn't get off his stool for the 3rd round." -Associated Press

• Besmanoff had retired from the ring after his April 4th loss to Chuvalo and was involved with this card as the promoter. However, Chuvalo's original opponent, Freddie Sullivan, backed out of the fight, so Besmanoff substituted.
