"Brute strong Oscar Bonavena of Argentina floored West Germany's Karl Mildenberger four times and hammered out s unsnimous 12 round decision Saturday to go into the semifinals of the WBA tournament to pick a new heavyweight champion. Bonavena sent the southpaw Mildnberger to the canvas with a vicious left to the head in the first round, and the German never fully recovered, although he staged a rally in the later rounds. The Argentine also belted the German into the lower strand of the ropes with a left in the 4th round, knocked him to his knees with a chopping right flush to the face in the 7th and sent Mildenberger flopping on the seat of his pants in the 10th. Mildenberger staged a rally in the 9th, rocking Bonavena with a series of right jabs and jolting him with a straight left, but after being dropped in the 10th he was on the defensive all the way. The Argentine finished on a strong note." -Associated Press
