"Turkey Thompson's world title hopes went out the window today because Cleveland heavyweight Jimmy Bivins wouldn't stand still for Thompson's knockout left hook. Thompson chased Bivins through 10 rounds at the Olympic last night without catching him and lost by a unanimous decision. Bivins threw out a flurry of left jabs and right crosses every time Thompson got within range. But when Thompson swung, Bivins wasn't there. Thompson landed his best blows in the 5th and 6th rounds, and then absorbed heavy punishment in the 8th and 9th." -United Press
