"Unranked Ralph (Tiger) Jones, a 9-5 underdog, won a unanimous decision over 10th rated Rory Calhoun of White Plains, N.Y., in their TV-radio 10 rounder at MSG, after slugger Calhoun had been penalized his best round, the 8th, on a low-blow foul. 30 year old Jones was awarded the verdict on a rounds basis, after referee Ray Miller's 8th round forfeiture ruling for a low left hook. Miller had warned Rory for low blows in the 5th. Jones did force the action as he marched forward persistently and he landed a lot of leather; but it was Calhoun who did the harder punching. Rory's combined body-head slugging had Jones back on his heels or groggy in the 1st, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th." -United Press International
- Promoter Norman Rothchild claimed to have offered Carmen Basilio $35,000 to fight Jones at the Syracuse Menorial Auditorium after this bout.

Post fight comment
- "I forced the fight in every round and beat him. And now I want a fight with Basilio to clinch a shot at Sugar Ray Robinson's title. Don't forget I beat Robinson 3 years ago and he'd never give me a return bout." -Ralph (Tiger) Jones
