"The aggressive Ralph (Tiger) Jones, 157, of Yonkers, NY, signalized his return to action after an injury enforced layoff with his thrilling come-from-behind TKO at 2:12 of the final round of the televised bout at Eastern Parkway Arena last night over Bobby Dykes. Trailing on the scorecards of two of the three officials, Jones dropped the 5th-ranking middleweight contender from Miami twice with rights to the jaw in the final frame. Bobby took a count of nine both times but referee Jack Watson halted the bout after the second knockdown with Dykes out on his feet. The ever-pressing Jones won the first two rounds but lost the next five as the sharp, fast-punching Dykes connected repeatedly. Tiger tore open a cut over Dykes' left eye in the 8th to win that round and the 9th. The 10th meant the fight but Dykes said the blood trickling over his eye prevented him from seeing the final two rights." -Associated Press
- Jones had been sidelined since the previous August, recovering from an operation on his broken right thumb and having bone chips removed from his right elbow.
Post-fight comment
- "I couldn't punch straight before with my right. I had to loop my right hand because of the elbow. Now I can punch straight and put all my power behind them. Now I hope my manager, Bobby Melnick can get me Rocky Castellani, Joey Giardello or Gil Turner." -Ralph (Tiger) Jones
