Nunez entered the ring, looking poised for an upset. She seemed focused and determined. But after 45 seconds in the ring, it was quickly apparent Nunez didn't have the skills to box Laila.
Ali, who spars with men, found it hard to find a rhythm against Nunez's unorthodox, southpaw style.
So Ali adjusted in the second round and began picking the Guadalajara, Mexico-native apart.
By the ninth round, Nunez's corner literally threw in the towel.
For Ali (18-0 with 14 knockouts) the fight was nothing more than a nine-round spar. It may not even have been that competitive. She barely broke a sweat, which was frustrating for the IWBF Super Middleweight champion.
"I was happy about the win but I was unhappy about my opponent, who didn't want to fight," Ali said.
