Ernie Roderick beat Kid Silver by KO in round 7 of 12
- Date: 1937-09-30
- Location: The Stadium, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom
- The Gleaner referred to Silver as the former Jamaican welterweight champion, but it is not apparent that he ever held that title other than the national lightweight title.
- Silver's purse was held up by the British Boxing Board of Control while reviewing his effort during the fight.
- Silver explained that the fight was originally scheduled for October 4th but on September 29th, the promoter, Johnny Best, rearranged some fixtures and stated that they would be required to go on on September 30th. He also claimed he weighed 152 when this was announced and he was now forced to shed 11 pounds to make the required weight of 141, otherwise incurring a fine of 10 pounds Sterling. Silver stated that this effected his performance, believing that the referee felt he should have continued and not taken the count.
"Kid Silver of Jamaica was counted out in the 7th round of his scheduled 12-round bout with Ernie Roderick of Liverpool in Liverpool Stadium. The fight had been fast and furious. In the early rounds Silver puzzled Roderick with his crouching style. But from the 3rd round on, Roderick got on top, crowded his man, and drove home fine lefts with telling effect. In the 6th round Roderick landed with lefts and rights to the body and Silver sank to his knees. He rose and stalked to the end of the round. In the 7th Roderick punished Silver severely, and after taking a succession of lefts and rights to the head, the Jamaican sank to the boards again and was counted out on his hands and knees." -The Kingston Gleaner
