Smith, the reigning California State Light Heavyweight champion, was knocked down for the first time in the 5th, by a left right combo, that put him down for a nine count. He was battered all over the ring after he rose. A right hand in the 6th, draped him over the middle rope, where he slid down to the canvas to take another nine count on his knee. Shortly after, he was floored for a third time; this time for an eight count. As the bell rang to end the 6th, Smith's legs were unsteady and he fell to the canvas.
Smith backpedaled throughout the bout, as he was giving up weight to the highly ranked Heavyweight contender Bivins.
