Hein Ten Hoff 216 lbs lost to Dan Bucceroni 188 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1954-01-05
  • Location: Auditorium, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
  • Referee: Dauber Jaeger

"Dan Bucceroni of Philadelphia whipped Germany's Hein Ten Hoff as figured Tuesday night, but was the triumph convincing enough to warrant a crack at Rocky Marciano's crown? Positively, say Bucceroni's handlers. But there is doubt in some minds. The final answer will have to come from Marciano's camp and the IBC. Jim Norris, IBC president, had said a convincing Bucceroni triumph would give him more ammunition to knock down a Marciano-Bucceroni title scrap before summer. Bucceroni, 188, and 28 pounds lighter than the 32 year old Ten Hoff, pummeled the German's head and body at short range to take a unanimous 10-round decision. Bucceroni came close to a knockout in the final round but didn't have enough left to put Ten Hoff down. There were no knockdowns." -Associated Press

Post-fight comment

  • "He's like a circus strongman. He's got a strong right hand. I tried to stay away from it. But mostly he's awkward - awkward enough to be good." -Dan Bucceroni, when describing fighting Ten Hoff.
