  • Date: 1935-06-25
  • Location: Wembley Stadium, Wembley, London, United Kingdom
  • "A crowd of 50,000 at the Wembley Stadium saw Walter Neusel, the German heavyweight champion, repeat his performance against Jack Petersen, the Welshman's towel being thrown in at the end of the 10th round. The fight opened at a fast pace. Neusel dominated the exchanges from the beginning, despite Petersen's clever scoring with both hands. Petersen's left eyebrow, which had given him much concern, was bleeding in the 1st round, and after that it needed constant attention. Petersen punched more frequently but Neusel's blows were more powerful and he soon had Petersen retreating, jarring him with short arm jolts and hooks. Petersen was game and he frequently landed good punches, but he did not use his straight left often enough and was unable to overcome the German's attack. Petersen desperately attempted in the 9th and 10th to establish superiority, but a Neusel left hurled Petersen to the ropes where the German rallied. Taking a heavy right Petersen was about to fall on his face as the round ended. It was then that 'Pa' Petersen threw in the towel." -The Brisbane Telegraph
