  • "California state light heavyweight champion Ray 'Windmill' White successfully defended his crown Friday night before a crowd of some 2,200 fans in Anaheim Convention Center. In command and clowning all the way, White was awarded a knockout at 1:58 of the 10th round of a scheduled 12-round bout when his shorter but swifter opponent, Amado Vasquez of San Diego, was ruled unable to continue. When Vasquez suffered a deep cut over his left eye, Dr. Jack Useem examined the laceration and ordered the bout to be stopped." -Oxnard Press-Courier

    • Depending on what publication was reporting, the weights of the combatants differed. The Press-Courier reported White's weight at 177 1/2 and Vasquez' at 176.The AP and UPI stated that White Weighed 174 to Vasquez' 169, which would be more plausible with the state light heavyweight title on the line. Also the AP reported that the actual attendance was 5,110 with a gate of $25,700. Still another publication stated that White won the state title in this bout, however, it is clear he had won the title in March of '71 from Chuck Hamilton.
