"New Zealand's Manny Santos and Australian jr. welterweight champion Hector Thompson battled out a suspenseful 15 rounder for the Australasian (Australia - New Zealand) lightweight title at Brisbane Festival Hall. Referee Terry Reilly crowned both boxers - a draw - but Santos appeared to win. However, Manny had to survive a torrid 11th round in which Reilly applied his first ever standing count.
