"Australia's Hector Thompson stopped New Zealand contender Ali Afakasi in the 10th round to retain his Commonwealth light welterweight boxing title at Festival Hall tonight. Thompson was slightly ahead on points when he stung Afakasi with a right to the jaw. Afakasi retaliated but Thompson held his ground, suddenly slipped inside Afakasi's guard and slammed him with a powerful right to the jaw.
