Frank Flores beat Nate Robinson by UD in round 10 of 10

"Paco Flores and Nate Robinson, the two rising young boxers staged a classic fight at the Tucson Sports Center with Flores scoring a unanimous decision over the world's 8th ranked junior welterweight. Both fighters complained to referee Joe Vozdik about the others tactics in close quarters. There was more than enough butting and rubbing laces to go along with the punching. Flores took command of the fight in the early going with his sharp counters. It was a matador-bull contest and Robinson was a toro of the first school with his aggressive pursuit. Flores had too much speed afoot and used his superior hand speed to its best advantage." -Tucson Daily Citizen

  • Robinson was cut on his right eyelid and under his left eyebrow. Flores suffered a slight cut under his right eye and his lower lip was bleeding, but that was caused in training when butted by his sparring partner.
  • Attendance - 1,700 (sellout)
  • Gate - $11,000

Post fight comments

  • "He beat me fair and square, but I thought it should have been scored much closer. He's fast and if I get him again I'll get in better shape and put more pressure on him. He can be had, but he beat me tonight." -Nate Robinson
  • "It's hard to believe, but they used bathroom scales to weigh those boys. Imagine - bathroom scales. I don't want anymore of that baloney the next time I come over here. Nathan got beat pretty good. It was his own fault. He just didn't do the things he should have done. He allowed Flores to have things his own way." -Harold Gunn, Robinson's manager
