"Ruben Navarro kept his title fight chances alive, as he overcame a reach disadvantage to pound out a unanimous 10 round decision over Greg Potter Monday night at the Civic Auditorium before an estimated 2,000 fans. Navarro, who comes from East Los Angeles, ran into trouble in the early rounds as he struggled to overcome Potter's reach. Potter kept the fight close as he continually tied up Navarro and hindered his punching. But in the 6th round, Navarro took charge and opened up the fight. He was able to land stronger jabs which gradually wore down Potter, from Joplin, Mo. Navarro opened up a gash over Potter's right eye in the 7th round. Referee Jim Cleary halted the bout momentarily to allow a doctor to check Potter. But by this time Navarro took charge and continued the attack with blistering rights." -The Albuquerque Journal
