"Jose Stable, Cuban lightweight, scored a stunning upset over 5th ranked Kenny Lane of Muskegon, Mich., tonight at St. Nick's Arena. Lane had difficulty throughout the bout trying to fathom the charging style of Stable. The fast-punching Cuban beat his more experienced opponent to the punch on most occasions. Stable ruined Lane's offense by rushing his opponent and tying him up during the infighting. In the 8th round it appeared that the pace might be taking its toll on the Cuban when he backed away from Lane's stiff punches. But the next round proved Stable had been pacing himself when he stood toe-to-toe with Lane and came out on top of a wild exchange. Lane tried desperately for a knockout in the final round but Stable withstood his attack by moving away from Lane's looping left hand." -Associated Press
