"Jose Luis Valdovinos, 119, not only took a physical licking, he also got walloped in the pocketbook against Julio Guerrero, 119, at the Olympic Auditorium. Valdovinos got off to a fast start and won the first three rounds handily. It appeared that he floored Guerrero in the 3rd, but referee Larry Rozadilla ruled it a slip. Guerrero, a stone-faced youngster who hits with either hand, dumped Valdovinos in the 4th, 5th and 6th rounds, before Rozadilla finally stopped it following the fifth knockdown." -Ring Magazine, August 1969 issue

• Valdovino's manager, Harry Kabakoff accepted 55% of the gate with the understanding he would have to pay Guerrero's purse. Kabakoff took a gamble to get Guerrero to fight his man and guaranteed Julio $10,000. With the gross gate at only $24,640 (it is unclear what the net gate that the purses would come from were), Valdovinos only ended up with $1,400.
