Newspaper reports disagreed as to the winner, but the Brooklyn Daily Eagle and New York Evening Telegram both favored Miske.

"Followers of the game in these parts are satisfied that there is scarcely a hair's difference in the punching power or the ability to absorb punishment between the two. Their battle was an ideal draw. Scaling at 174 pounds, Miske crawled through the ropes just three quarters of a pound heavier than Dillon and in the course of ten rounds there was little if any difference in the two lads from a fighting standpoint. Miske gave Dillon nearly all he had during the first six rounds and the Hoosier found the going tough, but fought back with the ferocity of a Sierra bobcat and weathered the storm. From the seventh round on Dillon had more snap to his punches and Miske seemed a trifle slow at times. Miske's best round was the third and it looked mighty stormy for Dillon. The St.Paul lad rained blows at the Hoosier from every angle and Dillon's great arms, bowed about his head and midriff, saved him from severe punishment. But Dillon showed his stamina by coming back in the seventh round. He backed Miske around the ring with a shower of punches and had him swinging wild and trying to hold on.
