"Lou Nova, the Los Angeles heavyweight, is a bit disappointed today because of his failure to knock out Charley Eagle of Waterbury, Conn. But it so happens that Eagle, veteran of 70-odd pro battles, has yet to be knocked off his feet. Eagle barely escaped such a fate when Nova gave him a terrific beating about the body in their 10-round feature bout at Mechanics Building. Nova used his tremendous physical advantages in height and weight to gain a unanimous decision. Eagle gained the first two rounds by slipping inside Nova's guard before coming out of a crouch and scoring with looping rights and lefts to the head. That type of blow opened slight cuts over both of Nova's eyes but the injuries were not troublesome. Early in the 3rd, Nova discouraged the Eagle advances by a lusty two-fisted attack to the body and the Californian continued to hand out cruel punishment until the final bell." -Associated Press
