Firpo Victor Over Dutch in Mitt Brawl
Young Firpo, Pacific coast light-heavyweight champion, successfully defended his title Tuesday afternoon at the armory with a clean-cut 10-round decision over Dutch Weimer, glove-inhaling artist from San Diego. Firpo weighed 173 1/2 , Weimer 177 1/2.
The wild bull from Burke, Idaho, hit the Californian with everything in his possession, but failed to send him to the floor. There was no question as to who was going to win after the completion of the opening round. It was plain to see that Weimer's only intention was to avoid being knocked out.
Firpo's unorthodox style, which includes everything but landing a kayo punch while standing on his head, proved extremely puzzling to the highly-touted Dutchman.
At the end of the 10 rounds, there was nothing for Referee Tom Louttit to do but raise Firpo's hand.
