Young Firpo 175 lbs beat George Manley 175 lbs by DQ in round 3 of 10

  • Date: 1933-04-04
  • Location: Auditorium, Portland, Oregon, USA
  • Referee: Tom Louttit

Manley knocked out Firpo in the third round, but the boxing commission decided Firpo had been fouled and ordered the bout continued. Manley had left for his hotel, however, and his purse was held up. According to the April 6 edition of The Everett Daily Herald: "The Portland boxing commission had today awarded Young Firpo of Burke, Idaho, a decision over George Manley of Denver, on a foul in their light heavyweight fight here Tuesday night. Referee Tom Loutitt ruled the blow fair and awarded the fight to Manley on a knockout. Firpo pleaded a foul and was sustained by the boxing commission. The commission fined Manley $280 for 'insubordination.'"
