"A bit more aggressiveness and Jack Sharkey will be quite a good heavyweight. Sharkey outpointed Eddie Huffman, the ex-sailor from the Golden Gate in 10 rounds tonight, before the smallest crowd that any fight has drawn to MSG since the structure was built. At that, the performance hardly justified the attendance of any crowd whatever, for it was a slow, disappointing exhibition. Sharkey proved an excellent defensive fighter and took all the steam out of Eddie with straight lefts to the mouth which had the Californian bleeding throughout most of the bout. But Sharkey lacked the aggressiveness to go in and make a fight of it and as a result, the spectators were booing, stamping and clapping during many of the rounds. • The NYSAC ordered matchmaker Jess McMahon to withhold the purse of both fighters due to the poor fight.
• On February 16th, NY boxing commissioner William Muldoon exonerated both fighters and released their purses, due to a proven hand injury sustained by Sharkey that slowed the bout.
