Maher made a quick feint, and then smashed a hard right on the shoulder. This made Kennedy fall back slightly, and then Maher landed a stiff upper cut on the nose with his left, breaking that organ, and before Kennedy fell he landed another on the jaw. New York Times. [According to the NY Sun, Kennedy's nose was broken by Maher midway through the first round. Shortly after the second round began Maher staggered Kennedy with a tremendous left hook on the jaw.
