"Art Hernandez, 157 1/4, of Omaha, Neb., climbed off the canvas Monday night to pound out a decisive 10-round victory over veteran welterweight contender Jose Stable of NYC. Stable, 153, hit Hernandez low in several rounds during the Silver Slipper Ballroom contest. In the 3rd, after he had been hit below the belt for the second time, Hernandez winced and turned to walk to a neutral corner. Before referee Harry Krause could intervene, however, Stable landed a short right to the side of Hernandez' head and the Omaha boxer went down for a mandatory 8-count. Hernandez took command in the 5th when he staggered Stable with a sharp left-right combination to the head. In the 6th he opened a cut over Stable's left eye and at the end the loser was bleeding from the mouth." -United Press International
