"Gypsy Joe Harris stepped further into title contention Tuesday night with a unanimous 10 round victory over veteran Jose Stable of New York before 6,000 fans at the Arena, his 16th straight victory. Harris, at 151, a pound heavier than Stable, cut his opponent severely about the eyes and mouth and carried the fight through all 10 rounds. Stable, forced into a defensive crouch by Harris' unorthodox, charging style, managed to land only ineffective jabs." United Press International

• Philadelphia promoter Herman Taylor announced he was confident of negotiating a welterweight championship contest for Harris against champion Curtis Cokes in Philadelphia for the Spring of '67. However, the best they could get was a non-title 10 rounder with Cokes in Madison Square Garden on March 31st of that year.
