Jose Stable 147 lbs beat Charley Scott 147 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Jose Stable, Cuban New Yorker, used a buzz-saw hooking attack to win a unanimous decision over rangier Charley Scott of Philadelphia Saturday night and earn a probable non-title fight with welterweight champion Emile Griffith. Stable had the better of the hard infighting because of his close quarter hammering in their nationally televised 10 rounder at MSG. There were no knockdowns but each was shaken several times and Stable's right brow was slightly cut as was the inside of Scott's upper lip. Scott's right eye was badly bruised in the terrific 10th round." -United Press International

  • Unofficial UPI scorecard - 6-4 Stable
  • Matchmaker Teddy Brenner stated after the contest that Stable would probably be meeting Emile Griffith in a non-title 10 rounder in September, and if he won or made it close, he might get a title shot. The non-title did not come off but he did receive a title shot at Griffith in '65.
