Boxing caught the attention of Frank Baltazar at the age of 12 (1948). Frank boxed as a Jr. and Sr. amateur from 1948 to 1964. He quit boxing to dedicate his time working with the Jr. Golden Gloves fighters. Frank served as director of the Jr. Golden Gloves for ten years.
In 1973, he moved up as the director and head coach of the Los Angeles Golden Gloves team. Frank took the 1973 group of boxers to Boston for the National Golden Gloves Tournament. His team included Randy Shields Frankie Duarte and Roy Hollis who was the lone winner.
The next year, 1974, he took a team to Denver. Two of his boxer Art Frias and Zeffy Gonzalez went on to have successful pro careers. Frias won the World Lightweight Championship in 1981.
Besides his many duties, Frank Baltazar was Vice President of the Southern California Coaches and Managers Association. In 1980 he was also the amateur matchmaker at the Olympic Auditorium. Also, Frank manages and trained his three sons, Frankie, Tony and Bobby who fought and defeated some of the top pros of the 1970s-1980s.
