JackOrtega1900.JPG (134 × 139 pixels, file size: 12 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)
This is a public domain photo of Jack Ortega which appeared in the newspaper, the San Francisco Call on December 1, 1900 on page 7, under the headline "Jack Ortega Sentenced to Prison for Life". As the photo was taken long before 1923, and appeared in a US publication before that date, it is in the public domain. I do not recommend it be used in other parts of BoxRec, however.
The photo is in black and white and Ortega is in a suit and bowtie with hat. Ortega, according to the article was about 24 when the photo was taken and had worked as a "pugilist" around the San Jose area. Another news article notes Ortega had served in San Quentin prior to his coming to Panama to box. He served only around 10-12 years of his sentence.
