Randall "Skeets" Starkey was a graduate of Ridgeley High School in Maryland, class of 1948, where he excelled in track and football. He was also a graduate of Miami-Tampa Barbers College, class of 1957. He was employed as a barber for six years in Miami, Fla., Frederick and Cumberland, Md.
Mr. Starkey was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood, Texas. He also served 20 years as a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees Reserves, which allowed him to travel the world on deployment. He retired from the Seabees in 1989.
At the age of 16, while still in high school, Skeets began boxing and fough first as a professional at age 20. Upon induction in the Army in 1957, Skeets trained for the paratroopers and taught boxing at the U.S. Army base in Fort Hood.
Randall was a charter member of the Has Beens Boxing Association, the Midland Sportsmen Club and the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 271.
