He was raised in Hull and Quincy, MA, developing a love and skill for boxing, leading him under the name "Eddie Lehan" to winning the Greater Lowell Massachusetts Golden Gloves 118 pound open class title on February 18, 1969. He was posthumously inducted into the Ring 4 Veterans Boxers Association Hall of Fame in April 2017.
