Ruenalf apparently broke his hand in the second Neill fight and re-injured it in training for a proposed fight with Bill Doherty in December 1904. That fight fell through and he was forced to back out of another proposed match with Ed Williams in February of 1905 because of a hand injury. That fight was later held at Melbourne.
