CLARENCE (HONEY CHILE) JOHNSON, who is fighting out of Asbury Park, N. J., is destined to shine bright and long as a pro if his brilliant record to date can be taken as a criterion. Unbeaten in 15 -straight amateur fights, Johnson turned pro in July after winning the Diamond Belt Sub-Novice championship in Philadelphia. In August he rounded out a full year of boxing both as an amateur and a professional.

He has engaged in six professional bouts to date and has won them all by knockouts. No opponent has lasted more than three rounds. The 18-year-old Quaker City lightweight made his first pro start on July 5 at Asbury Park, where he stopped the more experienced Nick Ristano, of Paterson," N. J., in 2:30 of the third round. In the same arena two weeks later he chilled Leroy Swain, of Newark, in 1:15 of the first round. His third opponent, Buck Rollins, of Trenton, was iced in 1:13 of the second round. Jimmy Stamford, of, Newark," was stopped in 1:36 of the second on August 16. He halted Jimmy Land, of Newark, in 1:53 of the second round on Labor Day, and Charley Grant went the way of the others in 2:23 of the first on September 20.

He was born in Richmond, Va., June 25, 1928, and moved to Philadelphia when he was seven. He attended the Audenreid Junior High School there but quit school after finishing the ninth grade
