Andy Sfrisi won the 1940 Philadelphia Inquirer Diamond Belt and Mid-Atlantic AAU Championships and the New York Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions vs. Ed Heinzinger, all at light heavyweight. Sfrisi was born in Canada but moved with his family to the U.S. in 1928. He was the older brother of fellow boxer Marcel Sfrisi.
