Deacon Logan won the Golden Gloves lightweight championship in St. Louis. He was a teammate of Archie Moore with the old Brown Bombers--a Negro boxing club in St. Louis.
He got the name "Deacon" because he often read passages from the bible to other fighters in the dressing room before bouts, and then carried it into the ring.
Logan died from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.
