In February 1929 Benny Mack was sentenced to 22-30 years in prison for the second degree murder of W.R. Moore. Efforts to obtain a new trial, reported in the March 4 1929 Statesville Landmark, were apparrently succesful as Mack would be fighting again in 1933. In July 1936 the Charlotte Observer reported that Mack, having recently returned from California where he had doubled for James Cagney in the movies, was facing trial for automobile theft.
In May 1961 Mack, then 57, would make the headlines once more as he was sentenced to 15 years for robbing the Marion Bank & Trust Co. of $3,644.
