According to three family notices in the September 27, 1916 edition of the Sydney Morning Herald on the Trove website, Lance Corporal Arthur Reginald Paton, 23 years of age, was killed in action in France on August 4, 1916. His survivors included his wife, Catherine; two babies, Evelyn and Arleen; his mother and a brother.

According to the Find A Grave website, Corporal Arthur Reginald Paton, serving in the Australian Pioneers, died on August 4, 1916 and is buried in the Contalmaison Chateau Cemetery, which is located in the French village of Cantalmaison and in the locality of Somme. Note- Paton was killed during the Battle of the Somme, one of the bloodiest in military history with more than a million casualties.
