The Ring's "Under Southern Skies" Florida- correspondent was probably wrong when he in 1947 and 1948 identified Joe Monterio as Joey Costa. Monteiro retired to live in Detroit around April 1948. (The Ring,Aug 1948) while Costa continued to have 6 rounders in Massachusets. But they had lot in common: Both were from Massachusets, they had exactly the same weight, both fought in Florida Nov.1947, Monteiro 1 fight, Costa 10. There could be some uncertainties about Costa's fights in Florida. They might as well be fought by Monteiro.
