Gibson, who was African-American, was a stablemate of Tiger Jack Fox. He usually traveled with Fox, while they were barnstorming. It was in fact his win over Portland's Elmer (Buzz) Brown in Pocatello, which landed him a return in Portland, which brought Fox to the Pacific Northwest for the first time.

He was barred from boxing in Washington in December 1934, due to a heart condition. Gibson settled in Ventura after his boxing career ended.
